An image cropper copies a rectangle of pixels and writes a new image that contains only that rectangle. This page does that locally. You choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP. After decode, the preview shows the picture scaled to the panel. You drag a box on the preview or type X, Y, width, and height in original pixels. Crop draws that rectangle onto a new canvas and encodes PNG, JPEG, or WebP.
Coordinates are in the source bitmap, not the scaled preview. A 200 × 200 box at (40, 80) on a 2400 × 1600 photo is 200 source pixels, even if the preview is 560 pixels wide. Aspect options lock 1:1, 4:3, or 16:9 when you want a profile or a wide banner. Free aspect is the default.
If the picture is sideways, rotate first with the Image Rotator. If the crop is still too large for a form, send the result through the Image Resizer. This page will not resize and crop in one undocumented step.
A box that leaves the image is clamped or refused. Empty selection, unsupported type, oversized file, and decode failure are errors. SVG is refused. The filename is sanitized for the download name and never injected as HTML.
A 1920 × 1080 screenshot can yield a 640 × 640 center crop for an avatar. A 4000 × 3000 travel photo can yield a 16:9 strip. JPEG output from a PNG crop drops transparency. If you need the transparent edge, keep PNG. The preview overlay darkens the unused area so you can see the box. The overlay is a drawing aid. The saved file contains only the crop.
This is not a healing brush and not a content-aware fill. Pixels outside the box are discarded, not reconstructed. Do not crop a legal scan so tightly that you drop a margin a clerk asked you to keep. If you needed EXIF GPS after the crop, you will not have it. Canvas output has no metadata.
Drag on the preview starts a new box from the pointer. The overlay redraws on move. On a 390px screen the preview still maps to source pixels, so a fat finger can miss a tight crop. Use the number fields when you need an exact box. Aspect lock rewrites height from width when it can, and clamps the box so it stays inside the image.
The same size, type, and privacy rules as the rest of this cluster apply. 8 MB. JPEG, PNG, WebP. No upload. No localStorage. Object URLs are revoked on clear. A MIME mismatch is unsupported, not “best effort.” If you needed to rotate before the crop, do that on the rotator and then load the new file here. This page does not keep a hidden rotate state.
Download names use a sanitized stem plus -crop and the chosen extension. That is a convenience, not a proof of the crop geometry. If you need to record X, Y, width, and height for a later job, copy the result row yourself. The page does not write a sidecar file and does not phone a server to store the box.
Drag on the preview to set a crop box, or type pixel values. Coordinates are in the original image, not the scaled preview. JPEG and WebP output is a new canvas encoding.
