An image format converter reads pixels from one container and writes them into another. This page converts among JPEG, PNG, and WebP using the browser canvas. It does not convert TIFF, HEIC, AVIF, GIF, BMP, or SVG. It does not claim universal conversion. If the browser cannot encode WebP, the status reports encode failure instead of a fake file.
Conversion is not lossless. Even PNG to PNG through canvas is a new PNG from decoded pixels. JPEG to PNG does not recover detail the JPEG already discarded. PNG to JPEG drops alpha. WebP quality is a slider, not a guarantee. If you wanted a smaller file in the same family, the Image Compressor is the closer page. If you needed a data URL for a CSS background, use Image to Base64.
Type is sniffed from bytes. A .png name on a JPEG is still a JPEG. Empty selection, unsupported type, oversized file, and decode failure are errors. The 8 MB and 16 megapixel caps apply. Nothing is uploaded.
A screenshot PNG becomes JPEG for an email that rejects PNG. A JPEG product photo becomes WebP for a page that already serves WebP. A WebP becomes PNG when a desktop app only opens PNG. The result size is shown so you can see whether the new container helped. A tiny source will not become a studio RAW.
Do not treat this as a color-managed CMYK workflow. sRGB canvas pixels are what you get. ICC profiles are not preserved. If a printer asked for a TIFF with a profile, this is the wrong page. If a CMS asked for WebP under a size cap, convert here, then compress or resize if the bytes are still high.
The accept list on the file field is only a picker hint. The gate is the byte sniff. image/jpeg starts with FF D8 FF. PNG starts with the eight-byte PNG signature. WebP is a RIFF file with WEBP at offset 8. Anything else, including SVG and GIF, is unsupported. That is a safety rule, not a missing feature to patch with a sanitizer.
Quality applies only to JPEG and WebP. PNG ignores the slider. A high JPEG quality on a screenshot full of text will still look worse than PNG. A low WebP quality on a photo may be acceptable. Look at the preview and the result size. The page will not invent a “visually lossless” badge.
Nothing is uploaded. Object URLs are revoked on clear. There is no third-party conversion API. If HEIC support required a decoder WASM and a large dependency, that candidate stays rejected. Use a phone export to JPEG first, then convert here if you still need WebP or PNG.
Conversion uses the browser canvas. Support for WebP output depends on the browser. JPEG has no alpha channel. This is not a lossless byte-for-byte conversion.
No. This page only accepts JPEG, PNG, and WebP.
No. The browser decodes and re-encodes canvas pixels.
No. Conversion stays in this browser.
The status reports the failure. The page does not invent a file.
